Welcome to the April newsletter |
In this newsletter I include my latest commissioned portrait, that of Brenda Billington. I would also like to highlight the National Portrait Gallery’s ‘Portrait Gala’ for which I contributed a Mystery Portrait Postcard. In other work, I have started what I hope will be a series of material compositions, using colour, texture and lighting to create form and atmosphere. |

Latest commission |
Portrait of Brenda Billington Brenda Billington is the outgoing President of the Royal College of Opthalmologists, having held the position since May 2006. A successful and highly regarded Consultant Eye Surgeon, I wanted to show in Brenda’s portrait the strength of character and determination that has led to her achievements in a predominantly male environment together with her sense of humour and caring nature. The portrait was commissioned by the Royal College to be displayed in their London Boardroom. |

Mystery Portrait Postcard, No. 108 On Tuesday 3rd March 09, the National Portrait gallery held its second Portrait Gala. As part of the event 139 mystery postcards were created by artists and celebrities linked to the NPG, exhibited anonymously and auctioned to guests in order to raise funds for the gallery’s education programme. My submission, lot no.108, was a portrait of my sister Sarah and sold on the night. All the postcards and information about the event are on the NPG website. |

Bundle I, 50cm x 50cm Oil on canvas |
Left is the first new piece based on material. A slight departure from my more traditional still life work, I hope a sense of fun comes across in the painting. Any comments or opinions are welcome via the ‘news and views’ section of my website. |
